1-of-150 UK Supplied Cars
Launched in 1958 with the Twin-Cam engine, together with four wheel Dunlop disc brakes and the distinctive knock on Dunlop steel wheels, the MGA Twin-Cam Coupe is a stunning looking car.
This example, first registered to Paul Godber of Weymouth on the 18th June 1959, according to the original green log book, is one of just 150 cars produced in Right Hand Drive, the majority of which were sold in the UK.
This car has its all important Heritage Certificate which records that chassis number YM1/1893 left the factory on the 5th May 1959 as a right-hand-drive home market car. It shows that it was finished in Mineral Blue with Grey trim, a combination which it has to this day. It further records the fitment of competition deluxe seats, Dunlop centre lock wheels and four wheel disc brakes.
A now unobtainable DVLA file shows a further nine owners, one of whom was the celebrated MGA Twin Cam restorer, Bob West, who owned it briefly in 2010. The history file also has correspondence from the MG Car Club, Twin Cam register and other relevant data.
Whilst there is minimal history to record the full restoration that this car has received, there are some photos in the file of the car at various stages and a couple of the car prior to the restoration. The car was repainted in the early 2000’s in its original Mineral Blue to a great standard and still presents very well to this day.
The grey competition seats and interior have been correctly refurbished and look great today with minimal wear to the Grey Leather. The dash is in the correct vinyl material and colour. The carpet were replaced throughout with the correct Grey carpets, and it has a set of MG rubber floor mats.
The engine bay presents beautifully with a wonderful attention to detail shown during the restoration.
Recent works include a carburettor rebuild by specialist Andrew Turner, and engine works costing £2700 which were carried out in 2018. In the past year the wheels have been correctly refinished in Silver and fitted with a set of period-correct Michelin XZX tyres, and further sundry works costing over £2000 spent with a local classic specialist.
This car also comes with two alloy boot lids. It has a standard boot lid that is currently fitted, but also a second featuring a chrome luggage rack and period GB plate for touring, both naturally carrying the famed Twin-Cam script.
This is a great example of a now very rare car in a stunning original colour scheme, restored to the correct specification.
